Description
Clearance – final unit. This is one brand-new switch from older stock, not a second, and our 12 month warranty still applies. We won’t be restocking this model. If you need more than one, or a rocker we keep on the shelf, see our KCD1 21x15mm rocker switch (it needs a smaller 18.8 x 12.7 mm hole).
A rocker switch is the panel-mounted ON/OFF switch you see on heaters, fans, power tools and bench gear. This one is a full-size RLEIL RL1-3 single-pole switch that clicks into a 30 x 11 mm rectangular hole and breaks one wire: press I to turn the circuit on and O to turn it off. It is moulded with a 10(4)A 250VAC rating, which means up to 10 A on a heater or lamp load and up to 4 A on a motor at 230V.
That 30 x 11 mm hole is a common size on appliances and equipment, so it suits replacing a worn or broken rocker as well as fitting a new project box. The two 6.3 mm quick-connect tabs take standard insulated female spade connectors, so it wires up without soldering, or you can solder wires straight to the tabs. Measure the hole in your panel first: if the old switch has three tabs or lights up, it is a different type.

Wiring & getting started
-
Check the hole
The switch needs a 30 x 11 mm rectangular cut-out. Cut it slightly small and file it out until the body slides in with a firm push.
-
Wire the two tabs
With the power unplugged, push an insulated 6.3 mm female connector onto each tab, one on the incoming wire and one on the wire going to the load. The tabs are not polarised, so either way round works. On a mains appliance, switch the active (brown) wire.
-
Clip it in and check it works
Push the switch in from the front until the clips on both ends snap behind the panel. With I pressed the circuit is on and with O pressed it is off. Check it with a meter or the load before closing the case.
Note: On 230V mains, unplug the appliance before working on it and use fully insulated connectors so no bare metal is left on the tabs. If you are not confident with mains wiring, have a qualified person fit the switch.
