Figured Tasmanian Myrtle 12.5cm trinket burl turned Graham bowl – Elliott

Description

Myrtle is a striking wood with rich red, brown and almost orange tones. It is believed the richness of colour comes from the quality of the soil it grows in. The deepest red myrtle comes from highly fertile soils on basalt. The colour is vibrant, combining subtle variations in tone with the texture and sheen of wavy and fiddleback features to produce a surface alive with character and individuality. Myrtle is found in any of the wet forests across Tasmania, more frequently in the north-west and west of the state. Provided that conditions are moist and sheltered, the tree flourishes from sea level to the tree line.

Wood burl caps grow on the sides of the tree and offer a natural artistic palette for wood artisans – prized for their unique color, figure, and rarity.

Bowl is approximately 12.5cm wide, 3.5cm high, and 2.5cm deep.

Sanded to a fine finish and finished with food safe Danish Oil to a satin glow.

Product Care

To maintain the beauty and longevity of your natural wood product apply a thin coat of food-safe oil every few months or as needed; Let it absorb overnight; and gently remove excess oil with a soft cloth in the morning. This process results in a lovely satin finish.

Proper care ensures your piece stays in great condition for a lifetime. Avoid the dishwasher and submerging it in water. Instead, clean it with a damp, soapy cloth.

Protect your item from knocks, scratches, liquids, and heat to maintain its like-new condition. Exposure to strong light may cause wood to fade or darken over time, but limiting light exposure slows this process. If water dulls the surface, refresh it with food-safe oil as mentioned earlier.

When using your piece with or near food, especially wet foods, food stains may occur. Over-ripened fruit in particular will create permanent stains. While they naturally fade or blend over time, it is best to avoid serving such foods on/in your item to prevent staining.
